Kristan Higgins among authors coming to Harwich Port

Updated: Jul 17, 2022

We're thrilled to be launching our first-ever summer author series this year, with visits planned from writers of a variety of genres, including children's picture and chapter books, young adult and romance novels, cozy mysteries and even a true-crime memoir.

Cape-Based Romances Reign

June is a big month for romantic reads set on Cape Cod.

Best-selling romance writer Kristan Higgins releases her upcoming novel, Out of the Clear Blue Sky, on June 7. It tells the story of Lillie Silva, a nurse-midwife who has loved her life on the Cape, but suddenly finds herself alone after her only child leaves for college and her husband dumps her for another woman. It's the end of Lillie's life as she knew it, but sometimes the perfect next chapter surprises you...out of the clear blue sky. Join us as we host Kristan Higgins for a book talk and coffee on Sunday, June 12 at 11 a.m. (location to be announced).

Erica George's new novel gives young adults a chance to read about summer love on the Cape. The Edge of Summer releases June 14, and tells the story of a girl navigating first loss and first love. Meet Erica from 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 4 at Below the Brine.

True Crime and Cozy Mysteries

Released in hardcover last year, The Babysitter: My Summers with a Serial Killer, details Liza Rodman's account of her childhood summers spent in Provincetown in the 1960s, including memories of her part-time babysitter, Tony Costa. Rodman remembers Costa as one of the only positive adult influences in her life at the time, but decades discovered that he was actually a serial killer who terrorized the Outer Cape and was responsible for the grisly murders of at least five women. Join authors Liza Rodman and Jennifer Jordan for a reading, conversation and signing of their newly released paperback edition of the book at 4pm on Wednesday, June 29 at Perks Coffee Shop & Beer Garden.

For mysteries of lighter, fictional nature, pick up a copy of Murder is No Picnic, the third novel in Amy Pershing's popular Cape Cod Foodie Mystery Series. The book, which releases June 7, returns to find professional foodie Samantha Barnes preparing for a fourth of July celebration on the Cape, when a suspicious kitchen fire takes the life of a famed cookbook author and retired restaurateur who had recently agreed to help her master the perfect picnic recipe. Will Sam be able to solve the crime before the real fireworks begin? Stop by Below the Brine between 4 and 6 pm on Thursday, July 14, to meet Pershing and have your book signed.

Memorial Weekend Children's Authors

Children's authors are always a favorite at Below the Brine, and we're thrilled to welcome back two of our favorites over Memorial Weekend.

G. Pa Rhymes returns with Beach Ball Blunder, the latest book in his Adventures of Cray on the Bay children's series. Meet G. Pa for a storytime and signing at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28 at Below the Brine

Award-winning children's author and educator Jenna Grodzicki also returns to Below the Brine over Memorial Weekend. Grodzicki, a library media specialist at a local elementary school, has authored fiction and non-fiction picture books, leveled readers and chapter books, including Finn Finds a Friend, I See Sea Food, The Story of Babe Ruth and more. Stay tuned for specific details about when you can meet Grodzicki at Below the Brine!

We'll be adding more author events to our schedule throughout the summer. Please check back to see if one of your favorites is coming to Harwich Port!
